A positive online presence has become a must-have for candidates looking to make the executive leap. Many executives I speak with have very little and in some cases zero social media or online presence, so first off, know this: not having a professional online presence can be a fatal mistake.

Regardless of where you are in your career, it’s important for you to understand that everywhere you go online leaves a digital record. While the digital age provides a variety of opportunities for your career, when landing a new role it can also cause irrevocable damage.

 

On average, 60 percent of employers use social media to find you online and review your digital footprint. Whether you’re on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, blogs, discussion boards, forums, or anywhere else out there, what they find will make all the difference in whether or not you receive a phone call or get deposited into “File 13.”
